This workshop will detail a philosophy and methods of working briefly and effectively with people who have been traumatized. An array of new methods have shown that previous conceptions and methods of working with trauma are unnecessarily long-term and re-traumatizing. Through lecture, videotaped examples and handouts, participants will be equipped with new tools and ideas to work briefly, effectively and respectfully with even severe and long-standing traumas.

Speaker Biography

Bill O'Hanlon, MS, LMFT, has authored and co-authored 28 books, the latest being Write is a Verb (July 2007); Pathways to Spirituality (W.W. Norton), Change 101: A Practical Guide to Creating Change (W.W. Norton), and Thriving Through Crisis (Penguin/Perigee; winner of the Books for a Better Life award). He has also published 54 articles or book chapters. He has appeared on Oprah, The Today Show, and a variety of other television and radio programs. Since 1977, Bill has given over 1500 talks around the world. He was awarded the "Outstanding Mental Health Educator of the Year" in 2001 by the New England Educational Institute. He is known for his storytelling, irreverent humor, clear and accessible style and his boundless enthusiasm for whatever he is doing. His seminars are as entertaining as they are educational.

Conference Goals

Participants of this workshop will:

  1. Learn four rapid methods of resolving trauma.
  2. Learn to assess which method for trauma resolution is the most helpful for particular client/patient.
  3. Learn at least three methods of identifying previously helpful solutions for trauma survivors.
  4. Learn to design and use therapeutic rituals.
